Dit filmportret komt voort uit het archief van de Braziliaanse voorvechter van de rechten van inheemse volken Egydio Schwade dat is gevonden in zijn huis in Presidente Figueiredo (Amazonas). Het archief bevat ruim 3000 tekeningen die de Waimiri-Atroari, een volk uit het Braziliaanse Amazonegebied, maakten tijdens hun eerste stappen op weg naar geletterdheid. De tekeningen vormen een collectieve visuele herinnering aan hun leerproces, perspectief en hun gebied en leggen ook getuigenis af van een reeks gewelddadige aanvallen op hen tijdens de militaire dictatuur in Brazilië.
