The Secret of Catharine the Great

Director Peter Woditsch
2000

An 80-minute film about the erotic chambers that Catharine the Great had built to her own tastes and design over 200 years ago at her summer residence. Without resorting to sensationalism or the furtive manner in which the Clinton affair has been tackled, we want to go in search of the objects d’art that were in this space and have been hidden away for so many years. The film will also be a quest for an answer to the question of why the existence of these rooms was kept secret for so long.

Our journey will provide more insight into the thoughts of Catharine and her contemporaries, but also reflects on today’s norms and values in society. Alongside the 80-minute version, a 50-minute version will also be made for screening on TV.
